2014: Goodbye marketing hypes, welcome reason

2014 is finally here, and there is a lot of talk about on what to expect in the IT and technology sector for this year. Yet, I was hoping that we could take a break from marketing hypes, fads and other coolhunting nonsense that the media insisted on talking about in the past year. In this post I cover two topics that are at the top of my hype list: BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and big data.

UPDATE: Originally this was a two-in-one post, which covered both topics of BYOD and Big Data. I have since then split it into two separate posts:
Bring Your Own BS To Work
Big data – bad, bad data!

Bring it on, 2014!

I have my fingers crossed hoping that 2014 will be the year of reason, where people and organisations will think twice (or trice), before jumping into the next cool bandwagon without due diligence. Well, what can I say… Call me an optimist.

  • Great post, Pedro! Inspired by it, I wrote down some of my thoughts around BYOD onto my own blog: http://niiranen.eu/jukka/2014/01/bring-your-own-x

    • Awesome, Jukka! Glad to know we're mutually inspiring one another.

Speaking of 'inspiration', I'm completely hooked on Koskenkorva Salmiaki. So next time I'm in Helsinki I reckon I shall return the favour and bring you a Rush CD 🙂
